I suddenly remember this drunk Irish guy in Dublin, Cian… and how he hopelessly tried to teach my drunken self how to respond to people in Irish for when I headed to the western coast..
He’s like “If anyone walks up to you and says “Conas atá tú”, you say “Tá mé go maith” and then you just smile and nod and walk away because I don’t have enough time to teach you any more than that.”
And he genuinely felt like he was saving my ass while I was over there by teaching me this and I wonder if he is ever like “damn I wonder if that one American ever made it back from Mayo or if they imprisoned her bc she didn’t know how to say ‘I’m well’ like the rest of us.”
Either way, thank you, Cian. You are thought of frequently.
